Scoring
Farflung rarity tiers and scoring
Five named tiers, five distances, one pin. Rarity belongs to an answer to a particular prompt, not to a country permanently. A familiar country can earn a different tier on another question.
Evidence and scope
Source check, 23 October 2026: the official guide names the five tiers; the public game client supplies their kilometre values. The changelog also describes collecting different rarity stamps for the same country. None of these sources makes a country permanently rare.
The five distances
The public client fetched by HTTP on 23 October 2026 contains the following scoring configuration, effective from 5 October 2026. These numbers come from the client, not a table printed in the how-to-play article. A miss is 0 km; five Farflung pins total 500 km, also the client’s daily cap.
- Common — 40 km
- Uncommon — 55 km
- Rare — 70 km
- Elusive — 85 km
- Farflung — 100 km
Gems are not the whole top tier
The official guide describes a gem as a surprising answer in the Farflung tier, with at least one on every prompt. Gem is a highlight, not a sixth tier or an extra kilometre bonus. More than one answer can share the top tier; use the camp list for that particular prompt rather than assuming only its gem earns 100 km.
Five Elusive pins total 425 km, only 75 km below five Farflung pins. Five Rare pins total 350 km. These are arithmetic comparisons, not claims about how likely a player is to reach either tier.
The client’s route markers are The woods at 0 km, The plains at 100, The mountains at 250, The ice at 350, and The edge at 500. They describe the accumulated distance, not extra points or additional rarity tiers.
What rarity does not tell you
The official explanation is about how readily an answer comes to mind. It does not give a player-selection percentage or a formula for predicting a tier from a country’s size or population. Check the prompt’s answer list after playing; do not treat a small country as an automatic Farflung answer.
Questions
What does the Farflung tier score?
100 km for that prompt. Five of them are 500 km, the daily maximum.
Is a country’s rarity the same every day?
No. The tier is how surprising the country is for that prompt. The same country moves tiers when the question changes.
Is the gem the only 100 km answer?
No. The gem is a highlighted Farflung answer. Other countries on the same prompt can also be Farflung tier.
